Forces of Nature at Decorex 2016
Is clay plaster now firmly re-positioned as a designer option? The clay plastered Benchmark Furniture stand at Decorex provoked an overwhelming response from the interior design community: Further proof that this ancient building material is now firmly repositioned as a cool, contemporary designer option.
Clayworks collaborated with the Terence Conran founded company, Benchmark, to create for them a bespoke tonal green finish designed to create a space of individuality, beauty and calm comfort. A space that would provide the perfect environment to launch a new range of exquisitely crafted wooden furniture. ‘We wanted a natural finish that would have texture and depth’, said Fiona Coyne of Benchmark. ‘The plaster has surpassed expectations. It has such warmth and softness and the light plays beautifully on the walls, making it a far more interesting space than if we had had plain walls. The bespoke colour complements our furniture so well’.
Luxury interior designer João Botelho tweeted: ‘Obsessed by this incredible clay wall. It is giving me lots of ideas.’
Design writer, Alison Millar, wrote: ‘Incredible finish…wonderful tone and colour. It’s subtle.’
Adam Weismann, MD of Clayworks, said: ‘This was a marvelous opportunity to present Clayworks in a way that is authentic and that provides an opportunity to experience a room that is clay plastered. The collaboration with Benchmark, with sustainable sourced natural materials, design and craftsmanship has resulted in a true force of nature.’
