Traditional Skills meet Contemporary Art
All of the walls of this luxury villa in Presov, Slovakia are clay plastered
Designed around the Vastu Shastra Principle, the stunning mandala was completed by Eliska using a specialist process called Sgraffito. The owners specified earthy, organic tones and natural soft colours throughout and Eliska explained why she chooses to work with Clayworks.
‘The basic clay plaster has a beautiful earthy dark brown colour and so I used sgraffito – the technique where the dark plaster appears in the scratched lines. The way that the unfired clay plasters sets means that they do not crumble and very sharp definitions are achieved. This way the design is full of fine details and reminds me of lace’. She added: ‘The combination of all of this together with the wonderful and specific white that Clayworks achieve, make this a very special result’.
