The refurbishment of Penhaligon’s flagship boutique on London’s Regent Street celebrates the heritage fragrance house’s 155-year legacy through British craftsmanship, luxurious finishes and contemporary design. Designed by Michaelis Boyd, the boutique draws on Penhaligon’s origins as a barber shop founded in 1870, with apothecary-inspired joinery and bespoke pieces by leading British makers. Visitors are welcomed by a striking bronze lion by sculptor Hamish Mackie, while a hand-painted mural by Claire Basler provides a sumptuous backdrop to the bath and body collection.
Working closely with the architects and brand team, Clayworks developed a bespoke Tadelakt plaster in Penhaligon’s signature William’s Green, named after the company’s founder. Applied across the walls and ceilings, this natural finish brings soft texture and depth to the interior, while recalling the traditional hammams that inspired William Penhaligon’s first fragrance, Hammam Bouquet.
This project feels particularly special for us given that William Penhaligon was a fellow Cornishman, and we are delighted to contribute contemporary Cornish craft to the reimagining of this iconic Regent Street boutique.
