Veldhuis

Holland

Located on a historic road lined by old farms, Veldhuis seeks to be a contextually relevant modern home with all historical references. Using the typical Dutch barn typology, the exterior brick walls and thatch roof fold around a complex mass timber structure, which was prefabricated in Germany and erected on site in just 12 days. Developed in conjunction with experts, the buildup of biobased cross-laminated timber structure, wood fiber insulation, clay plaster finishes, and local Dutch thatch makes this building fully vapor permeable. Together the material choices help sustain a comfortable indoor climate through their breathability and regulatory characteristics.
