Set within the East Sussex countryside and nestled beside orchards, College Farm is a contemporary reimagining of an agricultural Sussex barn by multidisciplinary design studio BOX 9. Conceived as a long-term home for the practice as well as a location for photography and film, the barn retains the generous volume and character of its agricultural origins. At its heart is a dramatic six-metre-high central space, overlooked by large internal barn windows at first-floor level, which open to draw light deep into the ground floor.
Clayworks Smooth Clay Plaster is used throughout, colour-drenching the interior in a warm, honey tone that feels intrinsically connected to its rural setting. Its earthy character sits alongside hand-aged smoky oak floors, raw and burnished steel and natural timber – a restrained palette informed by the surrounding landscape.
College Farm marks the latest collaboration between Clayworks and BOX 9 – a relationship marked by a shared appreciation for natural materials, craftsmanship and spaces with a strong sense of atmosphere.
