Nestled between a reservoir and alpine forests in central Slovakia, House with a Bakery is a thoughtful replacement for the original dwelling that once occupied the site. Designed to preserve the volume and position of the former building, the new timber structure combines family living with community enterprise.
Beneath a simple wooden exterior, the ground floor accommodates bakery production and educational activities, while the two upper floors house living spaces with expansive views across the water. This project is special to us as the architect and homeowner has been a longstanding applicator of our natural plasters and finishes. For her own family home, she chose three Clayworks clay plasters to line the interior walls.
“The specific characteristics and beauty of Clayworks plasters is unrepeatable. This is the personal space of the architect, who wanted to have this material next to her all the time.”
