Iorram

Scottish Highlands

Designed by Baillie Baillie Architects, Iorram is a small contemporary cottage that combines the character of a traditional Highland crofters’ cottage with sustainable, high performance materials.

The house is primarily built from local timber and monolithic clay block walls. Just four carefully positioned windows punctuate the solid form – creating a beautiful quality of light, subtly highlighting the smooth clay plaster and crafted interiors inside.

“We wanted Iorram to communicate the value of craftsmanship, locally sourced timber, and the inherent quality and calmness that natural materials bring to a space.” Colin Baillie, architect and co-founder of Baillie Baillie Architects.
