‘A Seed in Time’ RHS Chelsea Show Garden

London

Created to address biodiversity loss and climate resilience, the Gold Medal-winning Killik & Co ‘A Seed in Time’ Garden combines traditional craft, water harvesting, and contemporary ecological design. Contrasting dry and wetland habitats, the garden centres on a rainwater-harvesting structure that channels rainwater into a small flood zone, forming a biodiverse wetland habitat.

Inspired by traditional straw bale and reed construction, the sculptural, almost Brutalist forms were finished with Clayworks Exterior Rustic Arakabe plaster with straw. The natural, textured finish grounds the large-scale structure within its landscape setting, providing material coherence and a low-carbon surface that reflects the project’s commitment to sustainable and traditional building practices.
