Feix & Merlin Architects and General Projects have completed the sensitive restoration of the Grade II listed Walworth Town Hall in London, severely damaged by fire in 2013. Now reimagined as a mixed-use workspace and community hub, the building has been thoughtfully revived to celebrate its historic character while introducing contemporary elements.
Several spaces have intentional reminders of the building’s history – above a painted dado, the pitted and scorched surface of the old plaster, or the bricks exposed beneath it, have been preserved in their damaged state. Feix says this approach “lets the building talk about its history, rather than creating a pastiche of an era that’s long gone”.
Our clay plaster features in several spaces, supporting the project’s vision of respectful restoration and contemporary reinterpretation.
